Angela After four months of intensive intervention with sign systems and the building of her body awareness, Angela is able to playfully communicate with her mother using both signs and words.
Angela’s mom speaks about their experience at LCDC. Six months later she returned to LCDC and learned to read through Dr. Miller’s Symbol Accentuation Reading Program. The reading program is unique in the way it provides children with transition from pictures to printed words. It does this by morphing the pictures with the printed word. In teaching phonics, the Symbol Accentuation Program fuses mouth movements with the forms of letters so that the child readily produces those mouth movements that make the sounds that the letters represent…Today, Angela functions in a typical classroom and – while somewhat impulsive – is able to play with typical children.
